Frankly speaking…

A Conversation with a Marinagar resident, would generally go like this…

Q: How’s Frankie?
A: Which one?
Q: Frank Mascarenhas?
A: Which one?
Q: Zappa
A: Why didn’t you just say that. And then, the pause...

Coz there were so many facets to Zappa… Witty, well read, fun, intelligent, poet, fun, natural sportsman, talented, fun, crazy, tough, strong, fun, respectful, good son, good husband, great father... did i say fun?

An interaction with Zappa was like a roller-coaster – he came, he said some stuff, you laughed and by the time you recovered he was gone.

Every interaction was also melancholic… what a guy! what heights he could have climbed, if only…. what could he have been, if only…

Frank did what he wanted to and did it to his satisfaction… and that was good enough for him. He respected people enough not to offer them advise, and only expected the same in return.

So, lets toast Zappa, the guy who took the effort to be funny and make people laugh. And more importantly, the guy who did what we all want to do – live life on our terms… with no regrets.

Happy birthday in heaven Frank (24/07). May you continue to spread laughter till eternity.

P.S. If you have any of Frank’s writings, poems, one-liners or links to them; please post them in the comments so they can stay here for posterity.

HAPPY EASTER

He was just an ordinary man
A son of a mere carpenter
He didn’t look much different
From what any other man may appear

There are scant tales of his childhood
Even fewer of his youth
When he reached his thirties
Folks realized there was something afoot

He went about preaching his word
Along with his twelve disciples
He would go giving sermons
Along the shore and on the hills

There were hundreds that gathered
And cherished all that they heard
Few out there thought him queer
While others called him weird

He performed many miracles
Changed water into wine
Multiplied a few of the fishes
So that the multitude could dine

Gave the blind their vision
Brought the dead back to life
Though that pleased so many
It also created a lot of hype

He told folks to give up their excess
And preached the message of love
Some folks got angry when he said
His Father is the one above

He said there is only one God
That pissed the people a lot
So they conspired and schemed
And came up with a well devised plot

They caught him at a planned hour
Accused, scorned and hung him on a tree
He took it all without a fight
Coz that’s what it took to set us free

There was Denial and thirty pieces of silver
With a wreath of thorns he was crowned
Carrying a cross all the way to Calvary
He was finally nailed to it on the mound

Into your hands I commit my spirit
Forgive them for they know not what they do
The former spoken for him self
And the latter in regard to me and you

Go ahead and destroy this temple he said
And I will raise it in three days
That is why after Maundy Thursday
We have Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday

Easter is not about the egg or the bunny
So let’s all be prudent, sensible and wise
Easter is celebrating with gratitude
That wonderful and divine sacrifice
